West Virginia Northern Community College
West Virginia Northern Community College is a proud partner with ArcelorMittal in the Steelworker for the Future program. Northern is a comprehensive community college which serves the six counties of the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia and surrounding areas through its campuses in Weirton, Wheeling and New Martinsville. With an annualized enrollment of nearly 6,000 students, Northern is the largest community college in West Virginia.
Northern delivers the Steelworker for the Future initiative through the program known as Mechatronics which is available on the Weirton campus. The curriculum for the program was developed in collaboration with ArcelorMittal. The program is housed in a state-of-the art lab in a new addition to the Weirton campus which will be occupied for the first time in January, 2012.
Northern offers more than 75 associate degree and certificate programs on its campuses. The College provides programs designed to prepare individuals for immediate employment in areas such as technologies, health sciences, business, information technology, hospitality, culinary arts, criminal justice and human services. Northern also offers numerous transfer programs for those desiring to transfer to baccalaureate institutions and provides workforce training directly to local business and industry. In addition to traditional classroom instruction, classes also are delivered online or through distance learning in many programs.
